YOUR STORY...
1984-1985, with the will of the community (municipalities, organizations and individuals) and support of the CLSC community organizer, a provisional committee committed to the development of the Centre d’action bénévole St-Siméon / Port Daniel is established.
August 30, 1985, the Centre d’action bénévole St-Siméon / Port-Daniel receives it’s charter. September 23, 1986, the founding general assembly takes place at the Paspebiac municipal hall, with thirty-four people in attendance. 1987-1988, the Centre d’action bénévole is visually defined by it’s first logo! September 1987, the first newsletter is published. In 1988-1989, with the collaboration of the CLSC, Maria Hospital and the two Volunteer Centers, a service to new parents, the ‘P’TIT BONHEUR’, is offered. October 1989, the first ‘Meals-on-Wheels’ is established in New Carlisle. Over the years, it will extend to almost all the municipalities in the territory served. In March 1990, the Volunteer Centre began producing a weekly program on community television "TVC3" to promote volunteering in the community. December 1990, the Center, in collaboration with communities, begins the CHRISTMAS BASKET service. The Center will coordinate it until 2019. May 1992, the purchase of a house in the municipality of Paspébiac West marks a great moment for the Volunteer Center. 2001, is declared the ‘International Year of Volunteers’ by the United Nations. February 2002, the Gaspe/ the Islands Alzheimer Society’s local service center is welcomed to the St-Siméon / Port-Daniel Volunteer Center building. 2008-2009, thanks to nine financial partners, the renovation and expansion project to make the Center premises more accessible and functional, becomes a dream realized! April 17, 2010, our 25th Anniversary supper! April 20, 2010, a promotional tool, our website, www.cab-st-simeon-port-daniel.org, is launched. On June 6, 2011, the automated safety call program: Pair was launched in the Baie-des-Chaleurs. Fall 2014, a pilot project for the implantation of the Little Frozen Meals service begins, funded by the ATI MRC Bonaventure. This moment is a happening in our history. But around the globe, the COVID-19 virus is leading us towards changes in all of our activities and services. 56% of our volunteers are confined. We will never forget... The pandemic is part of our daily actions and activities. the 35th anniversary of the Centre d’action bénévole is highlighted by activities with long-term effects: new logo, new website, new exterior sign. Right in the middle of the pandemic, the center is setting up a standardized kitchen inside the premises of the Centre d’action bénévole to facilitate the work of the Little Frozen Meals team. Setting of a new service for the most vulnerable seniors: À proximité des aînés vulnérables, an action of the MRC Bonaventure community plan. Arrival of a support project to help caregivers of local seniors through psycho-social support and respite. The Centre is taking advantage of International Volunteer Day to highlight its 40th anniversary and the important contribution of its volunteers since the very beginning of its history.
