1984-1985, with the will of the community (municipalities, organizations and individuals) and support of the CLSC community organizer, a provisional committee committed to the development of the Centre d’action bénévole St-Siméon / Port Daniel is established.
August 30, 1985, the Centre d’action bénévole St-Siméon / Port-Daniel receives it’s charter. September 23, 1986, the founding general assembly takes place at the Paspebiac municipal hall, with thirty-four people in attendance. September 1987, the first newsletter is published. 1987-1988, the Centre d’action bénévole is visually defined by it’s first logo! In 1988-1989, with the collaboration of the CLSC, Maria Hospital and the two Volunteer Centers, a service to new parents, the ‘P’TIT BONHEUR’, is offered. October 1989, the first ‘Meals-on-Wheels’ is established in New Carlisle. 1989-1990, the first volunteer committee, the Bonaventure volunteer committee, is in place. 1989-1990, the Volunteer Center starts a CHILDREN’S CLOTHING SERVICE to support families in difficulty. March 1990, to promote volunteerism in the community the Volunteer Center begins producing a weekly program on TVC3, community television. September 1990, meals-on-wheels is made available in the following three municipalities; Paspébiac, Hope and Hope Town. December 1990, the Center, in collaboration with communities, begins the ‘CHRISTMAS BASKET’ service. April 1991, meals-on-wheels is made available in two more municipalities; St-Siméon and Bonaventure. 1992-1993, a second committee of volunteers is created in St-Elzéar. May 1992, the purchase of a house in the municipality of Paspébiac West marks a great moment for the Volunteer Center. September 1992, the Volunteer Center, in collaboration with the Volunteer Center of St-Alphonse / Nouvelle, begins hosting the ACTION BÉNÉVOLE emission on CHAU-TV. October 1992, the new premises are inaugurated, wonderful and very functional! April 1993, meals-on-wheels becomes available in the following two municipalities; Shigawake and Port-Daniel. 1993-1994, a third committee of volunteers is created in Grand Paspébiac. September 1994, good news… Health Canada offers financial support to the P’TIT BONHEUR 1994-1995, a fourth committee of volunteers is created in Port-Daniel. November 1995, the Volunteer Center adopts a transportation accompaniment policy. March 19, 1999, a working conditions policy is adopted. 1999, meals-on-wheels becomes accessible for seniors in St-Godefroi. 2000-2001, a fifth committee of volunteers is created in Saint-Siméon. 2001, is declared the ‘International Year of Volunteers’ by the United Nations. February 2002, the Gaspe/ the Islands Alzheimer Society’s local service center is welcomed to the St-Siméon / Port-Daniel Volunteer Center building. April 2003, a bilingual promotional brochure is launched. 2005, during volunteer week the Centre d’action bénévole St-Siméon / Port Daniel marks it’s 20th anniversary! May 27, 2007, the first Memory Walk is organized to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and funds for services and activities in the communities. 2008-2009, thanks to nine financial partners, the renovation and expansion project to make the Center premises more accessible and functional, becomes a dream realized! January 2010, a sixth volunteer committee is created in New Carlisle. April 17, 2010, our 25th Anniversary supper! April 20, 2010, a promotional tool, our website, www.cab-st-simeon-port-daniel.org, is launched. June 6, 2011, the launch of the Pair Program in Chaleur Bay, promotional activities starting in July and services in September! September 30, 2011, the end of our agreement with the Alzheimer Society GÎM (2002-2011). September 2012, the arrival of the Seniors Information Center in the Volunteer Centers of the Gaspé and the Islands, with an intervenor one day a week in each Center. Fall 2014, a pilot project for the implantation of a small frozen meal service begins, funded by the ATI MRC Bonaventure. March 2018, due to lack of funding the Seniors Information Center officially ends it’s activities. However the Center will continue to provide information to the general population, including seniors. 2018-2019, support in palliative and end-of-life care is implemented. As of March 1, 2019 services are officially in place. This moment is a happening in our history. But around the globe, the COVID-19 virus is leading us towards changes in all of our activities and services. 56% of our volunteers are confined. We will never forget... The pandemic is part of our daily actions and activities. the 35th anniversary of the Centre d’action bénévole is highlighted by activities with long-term effects: new logo, new website, new exterior sign. Setting up of a standardized kitchen inside the premises of the Centre d’action bénévole to facilitate the work of the Little Frozen Meals team. Setting of a new service for the most vulnerable seniors: À proximité des aînés vulnérables, an action of the MRC Bonaventure community plan. Arrival of a Support project to help caregivers of local seniors through psycho-social support and respite.
