The website and Facebook page are tools used to promote volunteer work and to provide information to our members and the general public. As part of our mission as a Centre d’action bénévole, we promote the Hommage Bénévolat-Québec award. This national recognition is important and every volunteer centre commits to promoting it throughout its community. December 5th marks International Volunteer Day. We take great pride in celebrating this day of recognition and promotion of volunteer work. The newsletter is published three times a year (April-September-December) "VOLUNTEER ACTION, AN ADVENTURE TO DISCOVER". This journal reaches out to our volunteers, beneficiaries and partners. Collaboration means several people working together on a common project. Collaboration permits: An example of collaboration is when, together, we wish to develop a new resource or service in order to respond to a common issue within our target population. National Volunteer Week is a week of recognition of the men, women, young and old who give their time in order to enrich their communities. This week is dedicated to all sectors of volunteer work.

International Volunteer Day; December 5th:
The Center has had a responsible volunteer management policy since May 2015. This policy was put in place with a spirit of openness, tolerance and inclusion, and with a regard for justice, equality, thoroughness and efficiency. We hope to welcome new volunteers in the warmest way possible, while ensuring integrity, confidentiality and respect. The Centre d’action bénévole Saint-Siméon/Port-Daniel advocates ongoing training and training sessions tailored to the needs of volunteers and the realities of the time. For example : A 36 hours training program from the Fédération du Mouvement Albatros du Québec on palliative care and end-of-life support is accessible to anyone wishing to offer this. A 3 hours training on accompaniment and transportation is given to volunteers involved in this service. This is a useful training which allows the volunteer to understand the role and its responsibilities. The recognition of volunteers begins right at recruitment due to the fact that we are able to understand what it is that volunteers wish to gain from their experience, and to offer them a wide range of roles. Organizations can recognize their volunteers by highlighting their individual contributions and the impact these have within the organization and community. The annual Volunteer Week offers an excellent opportunity to official celebrate volunteers. All the same, the recognition of volunteers is present everyday in our volunteer center through various methods; a little message, a call, a small surprise... the important thing is to take the time to do it.
Meals on wheels consists of delivering a hot and balanced meal to an elderly and / or disabled person once or twice a week, depending on the service development and needs. Each meal includes soup, a main dish and dessert, at a cost of $6,50 / meal. Meals on Wheels is present in the communities of Saint-Siméon, Bonaventure, New Carlisle, Paspébiac, Hope, Hope Town, Saint-Godefroi, Shigawake and Port-Daniel. The purpose of this service is to support the elderly or other vulnerable people in their daily life. Every week, a hundred meals are prepared at the Centre d’action bénévole in our premises, by a team of dynamic volunteers, under the supervision of a cook. A menu of twelve different meals, as well as three soups, are available. These meals are healthy, practical and economical. The price is $5.00 per meal with the possibility of biweekly delivery. Soups are available at $2 each. This project is funded in partnership with the Alliances for Solidarity and the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Solidarity. This is a telephone call that provides a sense of security, made daily or according to the beneficiary needs, approximately one, two or three times a week. The service is available to people who are isolated or who simply need someone to listen to their concerns and how they are doing in their day to day life. The accompaniment/transport service allows the volunteer to accompany the beneficiary to health services, such as to the hospital, pharmacy, doctor’s office or CLSC. The volunteer is available, attentive, reassuring and fully present during the appointment. The friendly visit is intended as moral support for one or more people confined by physical and / or social isolation. This service is often used following a particular situation experienced by the elder, such as moving, grieving, etc. The visit is made by a volunteer once or twice a week, depending on the need expressed. The purpose of these committees is to regroup a few volunteers from the community to organize activities to meet the needs of seniors who live at home, go out less and are limited in their activity. Such committees are active in Saint-Simeon, Bonaventure, Saint-Elzear and Port Daniel. SécuriCAB is a free automated call service, available five days a week, that allows seniors and those living alone to feel more secure, while maintaining their independence and providing peace of mind to their family and friends. The SécuriCAB program generates an alert if the subscriber does not respond after three attempts, at which time steps are taken to verify the situation with an identified respondent who has a key or with the police. The caregiver at the heart of our concerns. Welcome, support and accompany the caregiver. Allow them to have access to relevant information and training in order to break the isolation and facilitate their daily life. Give the caregiver the opportunity to truly listen outside of their usual network. The annual general meeting is an opportunity for members and the team to gather and present the different activities, services and financial report, as well as what worked and what didn’t. It’s also a time for members to exchange, ask questions and celebrate pride in their achievements and the work of all involved, volunteers, administrators and team members. The board of directors is made up of 7 people : president, vice-president, secretary / treasurer and 4 administrators. The board must hold a minimum of 4 meetings a year and has the power to make decisions necessary to the management of the organization. It adopts guidelines, budget projections, working conditions, salary policy, meeting minutes, etc. The general guidelines, including meeting policies, constitute the rules to be followed by the board of directors and the administration. Several policies have been developed over the years to ensure the appropriate functionality of the Centre d’action bénévole. In addition, mechanisms have been developed to ensure good management of the organization. Important elements of our management: Working committees are formed to work on policies, activities, or other as needed by the Centre d’action bénévole. These committees are made up of members delegated by the board of directors and the team, depending on the interest and subject of the committee in place. The vision of the board of directors and that of the workers in the field offer moments of exchange and discussion, with generally good results. Since the Centre d’action bénévole adopted it’s policy of responsible management of volunteers in May 2015, a human resource is assigned to the file one day a week. This policy stems from the organization’s responsibility and obligation of due diligence. It represents the concern to respond to the ever growing needs of the population, while respecting both the beneficiaries and the volunteers, in close collaboration with the Center employees. Our priorities: Needless to say, a volunteer is the soul of a Centre d’action bénévole. As they occupy positions of trust, it is essential that it is under the best possible conditions. This constant concern includes security, the protection of individuals and personal data, the best possible match, follow-up, training and recognition. As an autonomous community organization we must, by our actions and activities, respect the criteria of autonomous community action; precisely defined by a national policy in 2001. The first four (4) criteria are addressed to all community action organizations: In addition, there are four (4) supplementary criteria for autonomous community action organizations (ACA): Interesting links on explanatory videos of autonomous community action:
